The RevivalGate module is going wired
The RevivalGate module now connects over USB-C instead of Bluetooth. Licensing and testing costs made a Bluetooth version impossible to sell.
The RevivalGate module that puts a real WonderSwan online has switched from Bluetooth to a USB-C cable.
The Bluetooth design got as far as a finished board, ready to order. The problem was cost: the licensing and testing a Bluetooth product needs before it can be sold are expensive, far more than a small batch of modules could cover.
The USB-C module does the same job. It plugs into the EXT port, answers the game’s adapter commands itself, and your phone or computer passes the traffic on to my servers. It works with iPhone, Android phones, and computers, and takes its power from the cable rather than the console. The board is already drawn, and I’m moving on to the case and the first prototype.
I’ll likely release the Bluetooth design as open source in the near future, for anyone who wants to build their own.
